Just a few days ago in the early hours of September 23 we all experienced the Equinox. The Equinox is the exact moment that Mother Earth stands upright, without any tilt, and both the north and south hemispheres are equal -- hence Equi (equal) The occurence was just after 1am so most of us were sleeping through it, but because of the placing into Mother Earth of the Sacred Pipes (please see my blog on this subject) I, and a few others decided to stay up and experience the moment.
So I slept in a little later than usual, and then had a late tea before sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful evening. The Spring Equinox (here in the southern hemisphere) is the beginning of a year long medicine wheel. It is the place of the east, but before we get there, we must travel through the north, and the final pathway into the centre. (Please see my book, Sacred Circle for ore information on the Medicine Wheel).
For a few weeks before the Equinox I have had several owls visiting my home, and of course they are one of the stones of the eastern pathway. We of course also have many honey eaters (very similar to the hummingbird) which is the middle stone of the eastern pathway. However, the final stone, the firefly, I believed could not manifest in Australia because I was always told there were no fire flies -- but -- (you've probably guessed it!) I did indeed see a fier fly flitting through the garden just a few hours before the Equinox!!! I have since been told that they are rare, but they do exist here!!
It was a wonderful confirmation of the evening, a confirmation that indeed we were completing a medicine wheel and that journey had been successful. The evening culminated in a wonderful Sacred Pipe Ceremony and a Giveaway ceremony -- often considered the most sacred ceremony.
I hope you all felt the shift in energies of the Equinox. Our next big shift is in December with the solstice. Currently we are in the east travelling south. We are setting seeds and making goals. When we reach the south (december solstice) we will be ready to learn what we must know to complete our journey.
Many blessings, lesley |
